Tax Groups are useful for configuring taxes for areas where multiple taxes need to be collected. For example, you can configure a tax group for sales tax in Mustang, Oklahoma, which is made up of the following individual tax rates:
Oklahoma State Rate | 4.5% |
County Rate | 0.35% |
City of Mustang Rate | 4% |
Total | 8.85% |
Once you have defined a tax group you can assign individual tax rates to the group. Click here for information about how to configure individual tax rates.
When configuring individual taxes, you can specify whether they are applied manually through Business Hub or automatically in both the website and Business Hub, based on the billing/shipping address rules. When the automatic option is selected, the group is listed as being applied within an order if any of the individual taxes are applicable. However, only the applicable taxes from the group will be applied.
A benefit of tax groups is that they allow you to quickly and easily apply a combination of taxes at once in a quote or an order. Tax groups also allow you to provide your customers with multiple breakdowns of the taxes applied, that would otherwise be shown as a combined tax rate in the Tax Invoice.
The Tax Groups page is where you define groups. Once tax groups are defined, you can specify the group that a tax belongs to on the configuration page of the tax.
