Every decoration business has its own rules when it comes to returns—especially for custom, made-to-order products. In DecoNetwork, return policies are managed as Commercial Terms, which means they apply consistently across your main site and any affiliate stores you operate. Prerequisites
- Administrator access to your DecoNetwork account
- At least one website or affiliate store connected to your fulfillment center
Why manage your returns policy as a commercial term
In DecoNetwork, certain policies are defined at the fulfillment center level so they can be reused consistently across all connected websites.
- Ensures a single, consistent returns policy across your main site and affiliate sites
- Protects your business when selling custom, made-to-order products
- Reduces disputes caused by unclear or missing return conditions
- Saves time by avoiding duplicate policy updates on individual sites
Step 1: Open Commercial Terms in Admin
- Go to Admin.
- Navigate to Settings → Commercial Terms.
- Review the list of available commercial terms used across your DecoNetwork websites.
Commercial Terms are managed centrally and applied across websites.
Step 2: Edit the Returns Policy
- Locate Returns Policy in the list.
- Click Edit.
- Enable Override default content.
- Edit the policy text to reflect your business rules.
When writing your policy, think like a customer, but also remember that custom products are typically not returnable unless there is a genuine production issue (for example, poor decoration or a fulfillment error).
Step 3: Understand and preserve variables
Commercial Terms include built-in variables that automatically display the correct store or fulfillment center information.
- Store name – dynamically changes per website
- Support email – reflects the configured contact email
- Company name and return address – pulled from the fulfillment center
Step 4: Control visibility on your websites
By default, the Returns Policy commercial term can be shown on all websites. If needed, you can hide it and instead create a custom returns page for a specific site.
- Toggle the Active (Visible) checkbox off to hide the policy globally.
- Create a custom page on an individual site if that site requires a different policy.
Best-practice tips
- Be explicit about acceptable return reasons for custom products.
- Avoid emotional or ambiguous wording that could be interpreted broadly.
- Review your returns policy whenever you launch a new affiliate site.
- Keep language customer-friendly while clearly protecting your business.
Troubleshooting
- Policy not showing on my site: Check that Active (visible) checkbox is ticked.
- Wrong contact details displayed: Confirm variables have not been removed.
- Different policy needed for one site: Hide the commercial term and create a custom page for that site.
FAQs
Can I have different return policies for different websites?
Yes. While Commercial Terms apply globally, you can hide the Returns Policy and create a custom page on individual sites if needed.
Should custom products ever be returnable?
Typically, returns should only be accepted for production or decoration errors, not customer mistakes such as wrong sizes or spelling.
Do affiliate stores use the same returns policy?
Yes. Affiliate sites inherit the fulfillment center’s Commercial Terms unless overridden with custom pages.
