Allow custom fields to be added to decorated products on as case by case basis.
Under ConsiderationCurrently, custom fields work like a light switch..... on or off. But often, a popular blank product can be used for many different areas, requiring different decoration. By making custom fields available to decorated products, this would allow the flexibility to select the relevant custom fields required on a case by case basis.
I have identified 2 possible ways to achieve this:
- Add the 'custom field tab' to the decorated product list. When I asked about this, I was informed that it would interfere with the option to add a text option in the design tool, where people can add personalisation, but not add a charge for this. However, I would argue that they would in fact compliment each other.
- If it is not possible to add 'custom field' to a decorated product, there is a tab below 'custom field' on a blank product called 'decorated products', where it shows you how many decorated products are attached to the blank product. When you click on the number, it brings up a list of all the decorated products. By linking the custom fields to this page, it would be possible to select which custom fields are on for each design.
Currently, the only work around I can come up with is to create multiple blank products, to cover all possible variations of decoration a product might need, creating a lot more work, and being much less efficient.

I have raised this request previously, Jill. We have had the same issue resulting in multiple blank products. It makes inventory tracking impossible and results in a bit of confusion. @ Deco please consider this - it would be such a help :)

Does the store availability rules for blank product fields added last update help address this? If not, could I get some more details of the use case where you still need to create multiple blank products for use within the same store?

Hi Cristofer. The store availability allows different settings per website, but not different settings within a website. We deal with various sports organisations, who have their own badges, who want to offer items to their members. We have some items that come in many different colours, that a lot of these organisations choose to offer. However, some may want them to just have the badge on, others may give the option to add initials, some may want them to be able to add a number on the back, or a name..... some may want to offer a name and a number and some may want to offer name, number and initials. Currently, the only way to do this on Deco is to have a separate plain product for every combination of decoration for that product, across a whole catalogue of products where personalisation may be required. Rather than turning 50-60 blank products into 350-400 products, it would be a lot easier to be able to select a 'custom field' for a specific decorated product, and not a blanket all on or all off situation that is currently available.

We find the exact problem as Jill. We have separate shops on our main website, rather than shops split across multiple stores so the store availability rule doesn't work for 80% of our shops. We have a few popular products that we have just duplicated to suit each store. Although this solves the Deco problem, it has a huge impact on our inventory management (which is one of the reasons we got deco to ensure our inventory is being managed). If custom fields were made an option at decorated level - it would be a game changer. While many sports clubs pursue similar garments (especially with fashion trends), they dont call want the option of initials or want initials in different areas. We also find that the alignment issue etc is a huge roadblock. Custom fields at decorated would be incredibly helpful! The blank product in theory should just be the base - colour, inventory. Everything else should be decorated level.
