Line item notes allow you to add internal production instructions to individual items on an order. These notes are commonly used to communicate special requirements, production details, or clarifications related to a specific product on the order.
Unlike general order notes, line item notes are intended for internal use and help ensure production teams clearly understand how each item should be processed.
This guide will take you through the process of adding a production note to a line item in an order.

Best-practice tips
- Use line item notes for production-only details: Record decoration instructions, material handling notes, or special production requirements that apply to a specific item.
- Keep notes short and actionable: Production teams should be able to understand the requirement at a glance without scrolling.
- Avoid duplicating order-level notes: Use line item notes only when the information applies to a single product, not the entire order.
- Update or remove notes if requirements change: Clearing outdated notes helps prevent production errors or confusion.
Troubleshooting
- The note doesn’t disappear: Make sure the note field is completely empty before clicking Save.
- Note icon still appears: Refresh the page to confirm the note has been removed.

Are line item notes visible to customers?
No. Line item notes are for internal use only and are intended to communicate production requirements to staff. Customers do not see these notes.
How is a line item note different from an order note?
An order note applies to the entire order, while a line item note applies only to a specific product. Line item notes are best used for item-specific production or decoration instructions.
