Why make a manual fulfillment request?
Manual fulfillment is useful when your team needs to review orders before sending them to production—for example, to verify artwork, check stock, or confirm shipping details. Submitting a fulfillment request in Shopify routes the order to the DN Fulfillment Center connected via your custom third-party fulfillment app.
Note: This Shopify action controls the fulfillment request in Shopify. It does not determine when the order moves into production in DN. Production submission is controlled separately by DN workflow settings (e.g., “Automatically submit new orders that are ready”).
Step 1: Open Shopify Admin
-
Access the Shopify Admin and log in with your credentials.
Step 2: Go to Orders
- From the Shopify Admin dashboard, select Orders from the left-hand menu.
Step 3: Open the unfulfilled order
- Click on the order number of an unfulfilled order.
The order page will be loaded.

- Click "..." at the top right of the fulfillment panel.
- Select Change location from the dropdown list.
The Change location setting will appear in the fulfillment panel.
- Click on the current location after "Assign selected items to:"
.
- Click "..." at the top right of the fulfillment panel.
Step 5: Select the DN third-party fulfillment app
- Select the DN third-party
fulfillment app from the dropdown list.
Step 6: Confirm the location change

Step 7: Request fulfillment

Step 8: Send the fulfillment request
- Click on the Send fulfillment request button.
The order will appear in the Orders tab of the Fulfill Shopify Orders page.
What happens next? The order appears in DN on the Fulfill Shopify Orders page (Orders tab) for the connected Fulfillment Center to process.
Best-Practice Tips
- Map before you send: Ensure the order’s products and designs are correctly mapped to DN items to avoid submission errors.
- One source of truth for location: Confirm the DN app location is assigned before requesting fulfillment—especially in multi-location setups.
- Align DN workflow: After the request is in DN, follow your DN workflow (automatic vs manual submission to production) to keep jobs moving.
- Communicate status: Use Shopify’s order timeline notes to record that you submitted a fulfillment request.
Troubleshooting
- DN app not listed under locations: Verify the custom third-party fulfillment app is installed and connected; recheck app permissions in Shopify.
- Request buttons disabled: Make sure the order has unfulfilled line items assigned to the DN app location.
- Order doesn’t appear in DN: Confirm you selected the correct DN app location and clicked Send fulfillment request. Check integration logs in DN if available.
- Missing customer details on lower Shopify plans: If details are restricted, complete customer info as required before fulfillment can proceed.
