Use this guide to choose and configure how Shopify orders move into production in your DecoNetwork (DN) Fulfillment Center. You can run an automatic workflow that submits ready orders straight to production, or a manual workflow that requires operator review first. Note: this DN setting governs when orders enter production; Shopify’s own “automatic vs manual fulfillment” setting is separate and only affects Shopify’s fulfillment status and notifications.

Prerequisites
- You’ve enabled the DN Fulfill Shopify Orders app and connected your Shopify store to the correct DN affiliate store.
- You have Admin access to the target store’s settings.
- You (or your customer) have a Shopify store you intend to connect to.
Note: Shopify’s automatic vs manual fulfillment setting is configured in Shopify and is separate from DN’s production submission workflow. Align both for a smooth process.
Why choose automatic vs manual?
- Automatic: Faster throughput, fewer clicks, consistent handling of routine orders once products/designs are mapped and validation passes.
- Manual: Added control and review for custom, complex, or high-risk orders; lets operators gate production and request quotes where needed.
Step 1: Open the store you want to configure
- Log into your DecoNetwork website.
- Browse to Admin > Websites.
Click on the Manage button beside the store you want to configure.
Step 2: Open Fulfill Shopify Orders
- In the store’s admin menu, select FulFill Shopify Orders.
- Wait for the page to load in the work area.
Step 3: Find the Workflow panel
- Scroll to the Workflow settings panel
- Identify the two key options.
- Automatically Submit New Orders That Are Ready
- Submit Orders as Quotes Requiring Approval
Step 4: Configure the Automatic workflow (optional)
- Tick Automatically Submit New Orders That Are Ready.
This setting will automatically push orders to DN's production queue in Business Hub once they are verified as ready. Orders must meet all mapping, design, and pre-production requirements to be considered "ready."
- Confirm your mapping rules (products, designs) ensure orders can reach “Ready to Submit” status without operator intervention.
- Be aware of pre-production gates (e.g., shipping method assignment, payment confirmation) that can hold an order until resolved.
Key Considerations for Automatic Workflow:
- Orders will be automatically marked as "Requires Shipping Method" if the shipping method needs to be assigned to match the customer’s choice in Shopify.
- Orders will show an "Awaiting Payment" status if the payment has not been received or confirmed before moving into production. Ensure you have set up payment processing correctly to avoid delays.
Step 5: Configure the Manual workflow (optional)
- Leave Automatically Submit New Orders That Are Ready unchecked.
- (Optional) Tick Submit Orders as Quotes Requiring Approval to convert incoming orders to quotes for operator review before production.
- Define your internal review checklist (mapping, art approval, payment, shipping) to standardize manual gating.
Note: In manual mode, orders typically appear as Ready to Submit once they pass validation. Operators then submit to production from Business Hub or relevant order views.
Key Considerations for Manual Workflow:
- Orders will be marked as "Ready to Submit" once they meet all the necessary criteria for production. The DN operator must then manually push the order to production.
- Orders can also be marked as "Quote Requested" if they need to be sent for a quote before production. This setting is useful for custom or special orders requiring additional approval.
Step 6: Save and verify
- Click Save.
- Place a test order in Shopify and follow it into DN to confirm it behaves according to your chosen workflow (automatic push vs. manual/quote route).
Best-Practice Tips
- Start manual, graduate to automatic: Pilot with manual or quotes to iron out mapping and shipping alignment, then enable automatic submission.
- Name shipping methods consistently: Mirror Shopify method names in DN to avoid mismatches.
- Keep designs organized: Store production-ready artwork in predictable metafields and maintain mapping to reduce “not ready” holds.
- Monitor early orders: Review the first few live orders after any workflow change to catch edge cases.
Troubleshooting
- Order didn’t auto-submit: Check mapping completeness, shipping method assignment, and payment status. The order must be “ready.”
- Wrong shipping method: Ensure the Shopify method name exists in DN. If no exact match, DN applies the default method.
- Orders stuck as quotes: You likely enabled Submit Orders as Quotes Requiring Approval. Uncheck it to resume normal order routing.
FAQs
-
Does this setting change Shopify’s fulfillment status?
No. DN’s workflow here controls when orders enter DN production. Shopify’s fulfillment status is managed in Shopify’s own fulfillment setting. -
Can I mix modes (some auto, some manual)?
Yes—many teams run automatic overall, but switch to quotes for certain stores, products, or scenarios by policy. The toggle here applies per DN store. -
Where do I manually push orders if I choose manual/quotes?
From the relevant order in Business Hub or via the Fulfill Shopify Orders workflow screens (see resources below).
