Prerequisites
Why create a custom shipping/pickup method?
Custom shipping or pickup methods let you define unique fulfillment options — for example, a physical pickup location, local courier, or another non-standard delivery choice.
- Make the method available to all stores, including orders created directly in Business Hub.
- Control pricing (e.g., free for pickup or a flat rate), tax handling, and geographic availability.
- Use the method for quotes and orders created internally without tying the order to a website store.
Step 1: Create a custom shipping method
- In Admin, go to Settings → Shipping → Shipping Methods.
- Click Add Custom Shipping Method.
- On the “Add Custom Shipping Method” page:
- Tick the Active checkbox to enable the method.
- Enter a meaningful Name (e.g., “Local Pickup”).
- Enter a short Description (purpose, pickup instructions, etc.).
- (Optional) Choose an email template to use for notifications related to this method (e.g., ready for pickup).
- Open the Price Breakdowns tab:
- Untick Price per item if you want a single flat rate.
- Set the Price (e.g., $0 for free pickup) and save.
Step 2: Configure store availability
Set the method so it’s selectable in Business Hub even when the order isn’t tied to a storefront.
- In the method settings, find the Availability section.
- Select This method is available for all stores by default.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Configure pickup details (optional)
If the method is for pickup, refine who can see it and what they’ll see:
- On the Shipping Locations tab, limit availability to your local region (e.g., specific state/region, domestic only, ZIP/postcode filters).
- Add pickup instructions (address, hours, collection requirements) to the Description and/or the chosen email template.
Step 4: Use the method in Business Hub
- Open Business Hub.
- Create a new Quote or Order.
- In the Shipping section, click Select Shipping Method.
- Choose your custom shipping/pickup method (it appears because it’s available to all stores).
Best-practice tips
- Use $0 flat rate for pickup so it’s clearly distinct from delivery methods.
- Include clear pickup instructions and link your pickup notification email to the relevant order status.
- Test by creating an internal quote in Business Hub to confirm the method is selectable and priced correctly.
Troubleshooting
- Method isn’t visible in Business Hub: Ensure This shipping method is available in Webstores, Quotes & Orders (Business Hub) and Record Shipments (Business Hub) is selected and the method is Active.
- Method shows on storefronts but should be internal only: Switch to This shipping method is available in Quotes & Orders (Business Hub) and Record Shipments (Business Hub).
- Non-local customers see the pickup method: Add region/postcode restrictions on Shipping Locations.
FAQs
Can I hide the method from storefront checkout but still use it in Business Hub?
Yes. Set global availability to This is not in any store by default and set a rule for select stores.
Can the method include tax?
Yes. Tax treatment follows your overall tax settings; set pricing and tax flags per your policy.
