In the realm of e-commerce and online retail, establishing a distinctive brand identity is crucial for standing out in a crowded marketplace. One effective way to strengthen your brand presence is by using a custom domain name for your DecoNetwork hosted affiliate store. A custom domain not only enhances the professionalism of your online store but also reinforces brand recognition among your customers.
DecoNetwork offers a straightforward method to integrate a custom domain with your affiliate store, allowing you to move away from generic subdomains to a personalized web address that aligns with your business identity. This tutorial will guide you through the process of setting a custom domain name for your DecoNetwork affiliate store.
Prerequisites
- You must have administrator access to use this feature
Step 1: Register your domain name
Before you can use a custom domain name, you need to register it through a domain registrar such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains. Choose a domain name that reflects your brand or store name and follow the registrar's instructions to complete the registration.
Step 2: Edit your DNS records to point to DecoNetwork's server
Before you can use a custom domain, you'll need to update its DNS records to point to our server. This process is managed through the admin area of the website where you originally registered your domain name. Here’s how to do it:
- Access DNS Settings: Log in to your domain registrar's account where you registered your domain. Navigate to the DNS management section.
- Add DNS Record: Add the DNS record as specified by DecoNetwork. This includes a CNAME record pointing to your DecoNetwork store domain and an A record with an IP address provided by DecoNetwork.
-
Save DNS Changes: Save your DNS settings. It may take some time (up to 24-48 hours) for DNS changes to propagate across the internet.
Please check our separate help article for DNS record information.
Step 3: Set up the custom domain on your affiliate store
- Log into your DecoNetwork Website.
- Browse to Admin > Websites > Manage.
- Select Domain Settings from the inner menu.
The main work area lists the generic domains already configured to load your site, with options to add a new domain or redirect a domain to your primary domain.
- Scroll down to the Add Domains section.
Add Domain allows assigning other domain names to your website. Use this to add your custom domain.
- Enter your domain name into the Add Domain box, without http:// preceding the name, and click Add. If you are using a root-level domain (i.e. www.mysite.com), we recommend also adding your domain a second time with www in front.
The custom domain will be added to the Existing Domains list.
- Once you have added the custom domain, you can do the following:
- Make the custom domain the primary domain by clicking on the Make Primary link.
- Add SSL support to secure your website. View the SSL Certificate help article for instructions on how to add SSL support.
A tick symbol will appear in the SSL column for the custom domain once SSL has been added for that domain.
- Click Save.
