Prerequisites
- You must have administrator access.
- Your products must already exist in your product catalog.
- If applying discounts to selected stores only, those stores must already be configured.
Why Use Volume Discounts?
Volume discounts allow you to:
- Encourage customers to purchase larger quantities.
- Run promotional campaigns such as seasonal or back-to-school sales.
- Apply pricing rules across entire product groups instead of configuring products individually.
- Display discounted pricing in your storefront to increase customer engagement and create urgency.
Create a Volume Discount
- Browse to Admin > Products > Volume Discounts.
-
Click Add Discount.
Volume Discounts page showing the Add Discount button
- Enter a Name for the discount, such as Back to School.
- Choose how the discount is calculated:
- Each Line Item - The quantity is calculated separately for each order line.
-
All Order Items - The quantity is calculated across all qualifying items in the shopping cart.
Tip: Use All Order Items when you want customers to combine qualifying products to reach a discount threshold.
- Save the volume discount.
Configure Quantity Breaks
Quantity breaks determine when the discount applies. For example, you may want customers to receive a larger discount when they order higher quantities.
| Minimum Quantity | Discount |
|---|---|
| 6 | 10% |
| 12 | 15% |
| 24 | 20% |
You can also create a discount with a minimum quantity of 0.
Tip: A quantity of 0 applies the discount immediately without requiring customers to purchase a minimum quantity. This is useful for promotional sales because the discounted price is displayed as soon as customers view the product.
Apply a Volume Discount to a Product Group
To apply the discount to multiple products:
- Browse to Admin > Products > Product Groups.
- Open the required product group.
-
Select the Pricing tab.

- Select the volume discount from the Volume Discount list.
- Save your changes.
Products within the product group that do not already have their own assigned volume discount will inherit the product group's discount.
Apply a Volume Discount to an Individual Product
To apply a discount to a single product:
- Open the required product.
-
Select the Pricing tab.

- Select the required volume discount.
- Save the product.
The product will now use the assigned volume discount.
Verify the Discount in Your Store
Open the product in your storefront.
If the discount begins at 0 quantity, customers will immediately see:
- The original price struck through.
- The discounted price displayed.
- The product presented as being on sale.
This presentation can help increase the visibility of promotional pricing and encourage purchases.
Best-Practice Tips
- Use meaningful names for promotions, such as Back to School, Summer Sale, or Black Friday.
- Use Each Line Item when each product must individually meet the quantity requirement.
- Use All Order Items when customers should be able to combine qualifying products to receive the discount.
- Apply discounts at the product group level whenever possible to simplify maintenance.
- Reserve 0 quantity discounts for promotional pricing rather than traditional volume discounts.
Troubleshooting
My discount is not appearing.
- Verify the volume discount is assigned to the product or product group.
- Check that the order quantity meets the configured quantity break, unless you are using a quantity of 0.
My product is not inheriting the product group discount.
Products with their own assigned volume discount override the product group's discount. Check the individual product's pricing settings to confirm whether a different volume discount has been applied.
The discounted price is not showing as a sale.
Ensure the first quantity break is set to 0 if you want the discounted price displayed immediately when the product is viewed.
