Customize the email and order templates DecoNetwork uses throughout your account, from customer emails like order confirmations and password resets to order documents like quotes, invoices, and worksheets. Once customized, DecoNetwork retains your changes and uses them automatically every time that email or document is generated, whether triggered by a shipping method, a payment, or an order moving through production.

Prerequisites
- You must have Administrator access.
- If you're on the Standard plan or lower, the Email and Order Templates app must be enabled to use the Customize Template feature.
- Basic familiarity with HTML and the Liquid templating language is helpful for order template changes beyond simple text edits.
Why use this feature?
DecoNetwork ships with default templates for every customer email and order document, but the wording that fits one business rarely fits all of them. A shipping method like in-store or depot pickup needs different language than a courier shipment, and a production worksheet may need more or less detail than the default. Customizing these templates keeps your customer communication accurate and on-brand, and keeps your production paperwork showing exactly what your team needs to see.
- Keep customer emails accurate for how an order is actually fulfilled
- Maintain consistent branding across every customer touchpoint
- Reduce confusing or misleading automated messages
- Add urgency or incentives, such as a coupon code on an abandoned cart email
- Keep production documents like worksheets clear for your team
Access Email and Order Templates
- Log in to your DecoNetwork website.
- Browse to Admin → Settings.
- Select Email and Order Templates.
Navigate to Email and Order Templates
Customize an Existing Email Template
-
Select Email Templates.
Email Templates Page
- Browse the categories on the left, such as account emails, payment emails, or order emails, to find the template you want, for example the Password Forgotten email.
- Click Edit next to the template.
- Tick Override default template to unlock editing.
- Edit the Subject, the HTML version, and the plain text version of the email.
- Click Save.
Create a New Email Template for a Specific Shipping Method
Email Templates → Order Shipped Email Template
- From the Order Shipped Email Template category, add a new shipped email template.
- Write wording that matches how the order is actually fulfilled. For example, if a shipping method is a pickup from a depot, replace shipped language with pickup-ready language.
- If it's a pickup location, include the address, along with the days and times the customer can collect their order.
- In the Usage section, assign the shipping method or methods that should use this template.
- Click Save.
Assigning a custom shipped email template to a specific shipping method
Once saved, this template is retained and used automatically whenever an order using that shipping method is marked shipped, so customers receive wording that matches how they'll actually receive their order.
Customize an Order Template
Email and Order Templates → Order Templates
- Select Order Templates and review the available templates, such as Order, Worksheet, Shipping Label, Purchase Order, and Artwork Approval.
- Click Edit beside the template you want to modify.
- Select Customize template from the sidebar menu.
- Tick Customize default template to unlock editing.
- Edit the template's HTML, inserting Liquid variables where needed for dynamic order data.
- Click Save.
Show Barcodes on Order Templates
Order Templates → [Template] → Settings
- Open the template you want to update, such as the Worksheet or Invoice.
- Select the Settings tab.
- Enable Show Barcodes.
- Click Save.
If your team scans barcodes during production, this setting ensures they print on the worksheet, invoice, or other order sheets that use them.
Test a Template Before Relying on It
- For an order template, click Test Template to download a PDF preview using sample order data.
- For an email template, click Test Email Template to send a live preview to your own inbox using the updated template.
- Review the formatting and data carefully before letting the template go live for customers or staff.
Every template contains code that drives how customer and order data appears. Testing before you rely on a change catches formatting issues or broken code before it reaches a real customer or production run.
Best Practices
- Always test a template with Test Template or Test Email before relying on it, since broken code affects every order or customer it touches.
- Use per-shipping-method email templates whenever a shipping method's language genuinely needs to differ, such as pickup versus courier shipping.
- Keep order template edits focused on aesthetics and data display rather than functional changes.
- Remember the default template is always preserved, so revert first and reapply changes carefully if something breaks.
Troubleshooting
Problem: The Customize Template option is missing or unavailable.
Cause: On the Standard plan or lower, the Email and Order Templates app isn't enabled.
Solution: Enable the Email and Order Templates app, then return to the template.
Problem: A shipping method is still sending the generic shipped email.
Cause: No custom template has been assigned to that shipping method in the Usage section.
Solution: Edit the appropriate shipped email template, open Usage, and assign the shipping method.
Problem: Barcodes aren't printing on the worksheet or invoice.
Cause: Show Barcodes isn't enabled in that template's Settings tab.
Solution: Open the template, select Settings, and enable Show Barcodes.
Problem: An order template looks broken after editing.
Cause: Custom HTML or Liquid code was altered incorrectly.
Solution: Untick Customize default template to revert to the default, then reapply changes more carefully, testing along the way.
FAQs
What happens to my customization if I revert to the default template?
Unticking Override default template or Customize default template restores the system version immediately. Your customization isn't lost from view, but the live template reverts, so you can turn it back on if needed.
Can every email template be assigned to a specific shipping method?
No. Only the Internet Order Email Template and the Order Shipped Email Template support per-shipping-method assignment. All other email templates apply account-wide.
Do I need coding knowledge to customize templates?
Email and Order templates use HTML together with Liquid to display dynamic order data, so familiarity with Liquid is helpful for anything beyond basic text changes.
How do I safely test a change before it reaches customers?
Use Test Template on order templates to download a sample PDF, or Test Email Template on email templates to send a live preview to your own inbox, before relying on the change in production.
